Civil war again
In early August, rebel groups captured several eastern towns along the Rwandan border and rapidly opened a western front, capturing a key hydroelectric dam and threatening the capital. For Kabila, the conflict is an outright invasion from Rwanda and Uganda -- his former patrons. The insurgents say theirs is an authentic uprising against a ruler they describe as a poor-man's copy of Mobutu.
